The Oncology unit has 34 inpatient beds and features a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care. Outpatient chemotherapy is available on the hospital campus. Radiation treatments are usually handled on an out-patient basis.
Our multi-specialty cancer care team is devoted to the special needs of cancer patients. The team works closely with patients and their families to help them cope with the physical and emotinal changes that take place during medical treatment, surgical procedures, radiation therapy and recovery.
CyberKnife Cancer CenterThe CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System is the world’s first and only commercially available radiosurgery system designed to treat tumors anywhere in the body with sub-millimeter accuracy. Using image guidance technology and computer controlled robotics, the CyberKnife System is designed to continuously track, detect and correct for tumor and patient movement throughout the treatment. Because of its extreme precision, the CyberKnife System does not require invasive head or body frames to stabilize patient movement, vastly increasing the system’s flexibility.
Unlike traditional radiosurgery systems that can only treat tumors in the head and neck, the CyberKnife System can treat both intracranial and extracranial tumors. In fact, extracranial treatments currently represent more than 50 percent of CyberKnife System procedures in the United States, including those of the spine, lung, prostate, liver and pancreas. The CyberKnife System provides an additional option to many patients diagnosed with previously inoperable or surgically complex tumors.
