Cynthia S. Anderson, M.D.

Cynthia Anderson is a Jacksonville native and is proud to be returning to serve her community again.   She graduated from Bolles High School and then attended the University of Chicago where she received a B.A. in Political Science.   After working in Washington, D.C., in the political arena, she ultimately decided to pursue a career in medicine.

Dr. Anderson has a strong interest in stereotactic body radiosurgery, an effective technique to treat tumors in the brain and body.  While on faculty at Emory University, she and a fellow neurosurgeon co-founded the Spine Tumor Clinic.  It became one of the first clinics in the Southeast dedicated to treating tumors that either developed in or had spread to the spine with a goal of providing rapid pain relief and preserving neurologic function.  In addition, she served a principal investigator for Emory for two national trials investigating the use of radiosurgery to treat tumors in the lung and spine.

She continues to educate both fellow physicians and the public on the use of radiosurgery to treat tumors throughout the body, speaking at regional and local conferences, to patient groups, and on the news.

Dr. Anderson participated in founding our Novalis radiosurgery program at Baptist Medical Center.  She currently serves as the Clinical Director of the CyberKnife Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital and a practicing member of the Southside Cancer Center.  At Memorial, she serves as the section representative for Radiation Oncology, is a member of Cancer Committee, and the Breast Cancer Leadership Program.

Dr. Anderson is passionate about community education on cancer.  She is the co-founder with local oncologist Dr. Linda Sylvester of the Pink Ribbon Symposium, a non-profit breast cancer educational organization.  (www.pinkribbonsymposium.org) Since 2007, this breast cancer educational event is held annually on the first Saturday in October and draws hundreds of attendees.  In addition, she talks regularly at public events and on the news on topics including early detection of lung cancer, the importance of exercise and nutrition for cancer patients, and managing side effects of cancer therapy.

Dr. Anderson is an active member of the American Society for the Radiation Oncology, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, American Medical Association, Children’s Oncology Group, and the American Association of Women in Radiology.
