Janelle Lira Park, M.D.
Janelle Lira Park was born in Missouri. At age 4 she and her family moved to Avon Lake, Ohio, 20 miles west of Cleveland on Lake Erie. For her undergraduate degree, Janelle attended Columbia University in New York City, where she earned a bachelor of arts in Biology with a minor in Art History. Janelle then returned to Ohio to attend medical school at the Ohio State University School of Medicine and Public Health, completing her medical school rotations at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Not letting any dust settle, she returned to New York City to complete an Internship in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, an affiliate of Columbia University, and then moved across the country to Los Angeles to complete her Radiation Oncology residency at the University of Southern California. While at USC, she received formal training in radiosurgery using both the CyberKnife and Gamma Knife machines. During her senior year, Janelle served as chief resident. After a brief stint in a one-man private practice, Janelle opted to return to the East Coast, and until 2009 worked at the James J. Peters Bronx Veterans Administration Medical Center, an affiliate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where she had a joint appointment as an assistant professor. In the fall of 2009, she was lured to sunny Florida to join the Florida Radiation Oncology Group and to staff the Brandon Cyberknife Center.
Nationally, Janelle is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Radiology (ACR), and American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). She serves on the Radiation Oncology Guidelines and Standards Committee for the ACR, and also as the liaison between the Guidelines and Standards Committee and the Medical Physics Committee in ACR. In addition, she also serves on the ASTRO Diversity and Outcomes workforce committee.
Outside the clinic, you can find Janelle at the beach (maybe or maybe not learning how to surf and/or skimboard), hiking, camping, out with the dogs, or spending time with family.
