Mark E. Augspurger, M.D.
Dr. Augspurger grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended Fort Caroline Junior High School and Terry Parker Senior High School. Graduating third in his class of 465, he was awarded a Florida Academic Scholarship which he used to attend the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies. While there, he pledged Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was also admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. His academic accomplishments earned him an early admission to medical school at the University of Florida through the Junior Honors Program. He left Florida with an M.D. and a keen interest in Radiation Oncology.

Mark completed a transitional year Internship at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta. He then completed a Radiation Oncology Residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. While at Baylor, Mark served as President of the residents’ section of the Texas Radiological Society and Chief Resident of the training program in 1999-2000. As a researcher and educator, he developed an IRB-approved protocol, presented several posters and lectures, and contributed to published manuscripts during his years in Texas.

Following Residency, Mark served his country in uniform: As a Major in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, MS, where he was Chief of the Radiation Oncology Department for this regional Military referral center. During his tenure, his clinic was the busiest USAF radiation oncology facility in the world, and the first to implement Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy.

In July, 2003, Mark received an honorable discharge and returned to Jacksonville after a 15 year sojourn to join the Florida Radiation Oncology Group. He continues to be active in research and education, and holds the academic appointment of Clinical Instructor of Oncology at Mayo Clinic. He has most recently been instrumental in opening the Radiation Oncology Center at Baptist Medical Center—South. Mark is married to Terri Augspurger, and they have two energetic boys who keep their “spare hours” busy. When time permits, Mark enjoys golf and saltwater fishing.
