Gamma Knife

gamma-knife-machineThe sophisticated Gamma Knife machine at the Baptist Cancer Institute uses 201 pencil-thin gamma ray beams of Cobalt-60 radiation to pinpoint small targets in the brain. In contrast to the linear accelerators, this machine is very quiet. Treatment is usually all completed in one day, and is performed as an out-patient. This form of treatment is called Radiosurgery, and is done in conjunction with a Neurosurgeon.
