Prostate Implants

Permanent prostate seed implants, given either alone or in combination with external-beam radiation therapy as an alternative to radical surgery, are one of the most popular radiation procedures in the United States, due to their high success rate and limited side effect profile when used for the curative management of localized prostate cancer.

In the operating room under general anesthesia, the Urologist and Radiation Oncologist localize the prostate gland using a rectal ultrasound probe. Needles are then placed through the perineum into position within the prostate gland, and seeds deposited as the needles are withdrawn.

By the time all the needles are removed, the gland is nicely peppered with seeds that emit their radiation over a period of months. Intra-operative real-time dosimetry helps ensure a very accurate and successful implant. The patient is then sent to the recovery room, and is usually sent home several hours later.

Your FROG physicians are one of the top five providers of prostate seed implants in the United States, and specialize in a "Real-Time" Technique which provides superb accuracy in seed placement.
